It might not be you!

An interesting conversatation at work today ... Is the lottery fixed? I did used to think that, but forgotten about till now ... Let's look at the bigger picture ... those boys at Camelot can tell where the winning ticket for the lottery was bought. I assume, they just type in the winning numbers into a computer and up pops the computer saying where the winning ticket was bought ... so could the opposite be true? Could it be typed into a computer to find out which combinations of tickets had not been bought and therefore, could the result be rigged? I wonder ... maybe I am talking out my bottom here, but I am inclined to believe the lottery is one big con!

It might not be you! Or Could it ... ?

Well in theory you could increase the probability of winning the lottery by doing things that you have a low probability of doing. So if you can walk up to a random person and tell them their phone number, die in a plane crash, have octuplets, and not fart in bed first thing in the morning, then you've massively increased your odds of winning the lottery (warning: this does not constitute actual scientific advice and you should consult your financial adviser before the men in white coats drag you away)
